IAI GECC Recommendations
(27-39 semester credits)
Since completion of the A.F.A degree does not complete the Illinois General Education Core Curriculum, students will need to complete the general education requirements of the school to which they transfer.
Communication: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
Select a two-course sequence in writing (6 semester credits) with a grade of "C" or better and,
Select 1 course in oral communication (3 semester credits).
Mathematics: 1 course (3-4 semester credits)
Physical
and
Life Sciences: 2 courses (7-8 semester credits)
Select 1 course from Physical Sciences
Select 1 course from Life Sciences.
Select at least 1 laboratory course.
(Students with the appropriate preparation may substitute an initial course designed for science majors for a more general course.)
Humanities
and
Fine Arts: 2 courses (6 semester credits)
Art, music, and music education options must take 6 semester credit hours in both Humanities and Fine Arts. The art education option required 9 semester credit hours in both Humanities and Fine Arts. - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.
Social and Behavioral Sciences: 2 courses (6 semester credits)
6 semester credits for the art option; 9 semester credits for the art education option, and 3-9 semester credits for options in music and music education. If taking six or more credits, at least one course should be from social science and one course from behavioral science. - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.
