Agribusiness, Farm and Financial Management IAI Recommendations:

The study of agricultural business fields provides opportunities for careers in marketing, business management, farm management, finance, risk management, policy   analysis and international trade. Completing the following courses will permit you to begin college at one Illinois school and later transfer to another. Remember to consult with your academic advisor early and often!

Agricultural - Ag Econ & Agribusiness IAI Major Recommendations

• Agribusiness Core Courses
  (18-21 semester credits)
  Agriculture Courses
  AG 901 - Introduction to Agricultural Economics (3-4 semester credits)
  and/or
  S3 902 - Principles of Microeconomics (3-4 semester credits)
  and/or
  S3 901 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3 semester credits)
  In addition, students should select additional Agriculture core courses in consultation with an Agriculture advisor from the following page: Agriculture Electives .
  
  Business Courses
  In order for students to be prepared for the business/economic portion of their baccalaureate degree, it is recommended that students take 1 or 2 of following courses in the business discipline:
  BUS 903 - Financial Accounting (3-4 semester credits)
  and
  BUS 904 - Managerial Accounting (3-4 semester credits)
  
  Other Recommendations by the Agriculture major panel:
  Recommended Prerequisite: All agriculture majors need to be computer literate. You must be able to negotiate an operating system such as OS/2, DOS, or Windows; access the Internet; and use word processing, database and spreadsheet software. If you cannot do this, first take:
  AG 913 - Introductory Microcomputer Skills in Agriculture (0-3 semester credits)

 

• Agriculture - Ag Econ & Agribusiness IAI GECC Recommendations
  (Minimum 37 semester credits)
  These are the specific courses in the Illinois Transferable General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC) that should be taken for this emphasis.
  
  Communication: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
  Select a two-course sequence in writing (6 semester credits) with a grade of "C" or better and,
  Select 1 course in oral communication (3 semester credits).
  
  Mathematics: 1 course (3 semester credits)
  Select at least 1 course in consultation with an Agriculture advisor from -
  College-level Calculus, General Education Statistics, Finite Mathematics .
  Recommended: A second course in math .
  
  Physical and Life Sciences: 2 courses (7-8 semester credits)
  Select from Physical Sciences - General Education Chemistry with Laboratory .
  Select from Life Sciences - General Education Biology with Laboratory .
  (The Physical and Life Sciences requirements can also be satisfied by the first course in the Chemistry sequence and the second course in the Biological Sciences sequence, respectively, from the Illinois Baccalaureate Majors' Recommendations.)
  
  Humanities and Fine Arts: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
  Select 1 course from Humanities,
  Select 1 course from Fine Arts and
  Select 1 from either Humanities or Fine Arts. - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.
  
  Social and Behavioral Sciences: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
  Select 3 courses from at least 2 different disciplines (e.g., no more than 2 courses from, for example, psychology) - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.
  Recommended: S3 901 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3 semester credits) (add link to course description here)
